Home Again . . . But Not for Long

March 22, 2011

I think I've been away more than I've been home in the last couple of months.

In February, I gave several lectures to the Friendship Star Guild in San Diego, California. Then I was able to add in some visiting time with my son and daughter, and their families, on the West Coast.

I was home for a few days to work furiously on finalizing fabric designs for a collection due out next year, and to help do some final testing of our new jinnybeyer.com website.  Then it was off to Europe for two wonderful events.

I spent six days in Prague, two days teaching and the rest sight-seeing. What a gorgeous city! Jana Waraus was my host in Prague and I taught three classes in her shop/studio. Jana and her husband, Tomas, took me all over the city, and there was truly a feast of patterns in the architecture.

From Prague, it was off to The Netherlands. Trijntje Yntema has a shop behind her house, stocked with an amazing selection of fabrics that are also available on her website. As I usually find in Europe, the quilters have solid sewing skills and are avidly searching for new techniques and creative ideas.

I love teaching -- it keeps me fresh and I really enjoy the happiness that my students express when they learn a new skill or see design possibilities unfold for them.

It won't be too long before I'm off to Australia for several weeks.  My last visits there really excited my creative juices:  my Outback and Pacific Rim collections were both inspired by trips to that region.  Can't wait to see what comes out of this one!

Happy Quilting!
