Quilt Details: Soaring High

While Jinny was writing her book, Designing Tessellations (now out of print), she experimented with a wide variety of interlocking patterns. This design reminded her of birds flying. Some quilters see small birds on the wing; others see heads of large birds.  Which do you see?

In addition to tessellations, Jinny incorporated one of her favorite design techniques -- fragmentation. To incorporate a wide variety of fabrics and colors, and make the edges of the design less distinct, she broke up or "fragmented" the inside of the tessellating shape.
